Swedish Festival

s1Each year, the Mt. Jewett Swedish Festival is held during the second week of August. During the month of August, the town gathers around to enjoy the traditional Swedish food, music and entertainment. We embrace this annual event to celebrate the Swedish culture of Mount Jewett.

As we do every year, the festival committee strives to give back to the community. During the previous festival, a special wood bench was carved in memory of Mike Mix.

We hold the traditional Swedish Meatball Content to find out who makes the best meatballs in town, Pie contests, a maypole dance, Swedish dancers, and Scandinavian folk bands. The previous pie contest was reported to have generated nearly $2,000 in 2016.

s2For the kids, we encourage bike races, puppet shows, magicians, clowns, jugglers, photo booth, coloring contests, storytelling, and fireworks. For our lovable pets, we choose who gets to be crowned the Cutest Pet and lead the Swedish Festival Pet Parade. You can also enter for a chance to win a traditional carved wooden bench.

The festival is also looking for the next king and queen as well as the junior prince and princess. A brief Youngster vs. Old Timers softball game is also scheduling for the next upcoming festival. If anyone is interested in volunteering for the next upcoming festival, join us for the following meetings.

We would also like to thank the Mt. Jewett Ambulance Association for providing emergency services as well as sponsoring the children’s bike race.

You can preorder your tickets for $6 per child and $12 per adult. There will be 4 sessions to ride all weekend. Friday (1) – Saturday (2) – Sunday (1). You can purchase the advanced tickets at Hamlin Bank, Café Sol, or purchase them during the festival at regular cost.
